I'm in the process of building a computer for Avid, Adobe Suite, Davinci Resolve and Maya. I wanted to run these specs by you all to get your advice on what I should add or take away.

Intel Core i7-3930K Sandy Bridge-E3.2Ghz (3.8 Turbo) 6 Core

Asus P9X79, SLI and X-Fire, Sata3, USB 3.0, iEEE, GB Lan, HD Audio

32 GB Ram 1866 quad Channel

GeForce GTX 770 2GB PCI EXpress 16X quad head, HDMI

Sound Blaster Recon3D PCI express sound card

I don't know much about the inner workings of PC's.

My usual stance on this stuff is that you might be able to get away with less graphics card power than you think. It depends entirely on what kinds of tasks you anticipate working on.

If you are going to be a) pushing around huge numbers of polygons, b) using the hardware renderer regularly, or c) using advanced hardware shading in-viewport for visualization, then powerful videocards are definitely assets.

But in my experience plenty of 3D work can be accomplished just fine using simple previews in the viewport; the money might be better spend on more processing power, which will actually speed up your software renders.

Just my $0.02.
