Maya to C4D
on Aug 8, 2013 at 9:02:58 am

Hi there, I'm trying to export from Maya to C4D.

I've looked on the internet and havn't found anything promising yet.

Is there an easy way to get a textured model from Maya into C4D.

Many Thanks

Not really. Textures are always a problem when exporting 3D models, regardless of what software you use. You should always texture in the software you're going to render in to avoid trouble.

Okay basically the Maya Designer has sent me a folder of .tga files that all work in Maya 2014. I can't match them up becasue in C4D I don't have the textures that it's asking for.

I'm really not sure what to do here.

For example there is no such thing as a Lambert in C4D.

I can get into the building model in Maya, I need a way to get it looking the same in C4D. Is there a way to
prepare it?

It's hard to say based on the information you've given me. But a standard C4D Mat material will serve perfectly as a lambert when you turn off the specular. So there's that.

You're probably going to have to plug the .tga files in the relevant slots. Other than that, I can't really tell you what to do based on this information. Bottomline is that it's definitely possible and it shouldn't take all that long.
