snap vertices to surface plane
on May 22, 2013 at 10:27:41 am

Hi All,
How can I snap many vertices to a surface plane or image plane or construction plane (any thing really) that is at an angle of say 45 degrees?
I can snap individual vertices to a live object that is at an angle - but never many vertices at once (and I have a lot to snap!)
When i try to snap many vertices at once to a live object that is at an angle, the vertices don't all line up along that plane.
Component spacing doesn't seem to make a difference when it is at an angle.
I tried using - along live object axis but that didn't help either

Any help would be greatly appreciated
I've attached a screen shot

Thanks

I don't know of a 'one-click' way to do this... although it's possible I'm missing some tool or setting.

What I'd do in this case is note the angle of the plane, then zero its rotations, snap the points to it vertically while flat, then rotate points and plane back to the desired angle. Not the most elegant solution, I know.

You could also maybe apply a Cluster deformer to those points, parented to and centered on the plane... then shrink the cluster Scale Y to zero?

Hope that helps, or someone else has a better solution.

Thanks so much for getting back to me Steve, I'll give those options a go now.
Thanks again!
