See light-projected image on back of geometry?
on Apr 3, 2013 at 2:54:24 pm

I need to map a texture to a spot light and shine it on a polygon surface - easy, no problem. But I need to render the polygon surface from the BACK and see the light as if its shining through rice paper or something like that.

Anyone know how I can do that?

3DS Max's translucent material is the effect I'm trying to achieve....

This seems to work for me if I just increase the Translucence value of the material. What results are you getting?

I just get nothing on the back. What kind of shader are you using? Maya SW or Mental Ray? Raytracing?

Maya SW, no raytracing, a simple Lambert shader, a ramp texture on the Color attribute of the light. Works fine. The higher the Translucence, the more clearly the pattern comes through.

This seems like it should work 'out of the box'. Sorry, don't know the source of your discrepancy!

Ya know - that setting was one of the first things I tried, for some reason it didn't work so I never went back to it. Just tried it again and it worked fine, DOH!

Thank you!
