GPU usage in final render.
on Mar 17, 2013 at 10:24:13 am

Hi.

I wonder if there is any change with Maya and gpu rendering after Nvidia has Mental Images now?

What i'm looking for is solution to speed up my final renders.

I know that furball and iray can help me with ui acceleration but i wonder if they
or anything else can help with rendering?

i'm using mentalry that is built in but i could go with vray etc if it helps in performance.

all ideas are welcome.

Broadly speaking, your GPU doesn't affect final renders unless you are actually using the Maya Hardware Renderer to create your final image. After all, there may be cases where you want to send your render to an entire farm of machines that don't even have video cards at all.

That being said, I am kind of old and out of touch with the latest developments. It's not impossible that there's been some work done to integrate GPU calculations into mental ray renders... I just haven't heard about it myself.
