Mental Ray rendering problem - Grains on Blinn.
on Jan 29, 2013 at 9:44:00 pm

Hello there,

I am developing an advertisement concept for one of my company clients. The concept -as you see- is a house inside a shield for a home-protection product.

I did a few Mental Ray rendering tests and this is what I got:

I am sure you can notice that the shield walls are full of grains, especially from the middle downward.

If you download the image and zoom-in the grain will be clearer to your eye.

Can you please help me getting rid of that?

I'm new to Maya but learning it intensively.

Hope you can help.

Thanks,
Lee

Hi Lee,

Could you make some screenshots of your render settings? I'm assuming you're using mental ray, so I'm mainly interested in the Quality and Indirect Lighting tab. And maybe a screenshot of your Blinn settings.

And finally, try to make a roughly similar material, but with a Phong. If the problem still occurs, it's not your material but a render issue. If it's gone, we'll have to find the issue in your material.

Fun concept by the way, I like it.

Cheers,

Ben van H.

Hi Ben!

When I read your post I went and played with the Rendering Settings till I got it right. It was actually in Draft Mode! I changed it to Production and Lighting tab to Final Gather. It worked well :)

Trying finishing the job, I realized I need a big tutorial in lightings LOL

Thanks again for your great help.
