Yesterday I was learning how create planet earth in maya by mapping a high res nasa map on a sphere. Worked beautifully. However, now I'm trying to do it again to familiarize myself with the process, and it wont work. Instead of earth I get a grey ball. I followed the exact same procedure that I did previously, and did not change any settings. Why, suddenly, is this not mapping the earth to the sphere?
Here's the process I did (that worked yesterday):
In Maya - create polygon sphere
Select sphere - In Attribute Editor - click "lambert1" tab
Under "common material attributes" click the checkered box to the right of the color slider
Select "File" in the "create render node" window
Back in Attribute editor, under File attributes, click folder to the right of "image name"
Select saved earth texture map
The sphere is now the planet earth (at least it was yesterday)
Any help, suggestions, advice, ideas? This is so frustrating!
Did you remember to place the actual image in the images folder for your scene or project? As well, make sure that textures are enabled in the viewport so you can see them, do a quick test render to see if they are there in the render.....Hope that helps.
