Need some help with deformers in MAYA. So basically in displacement maps in other programs grey means no change and black and white result in positive or negative changes. In Maya that's not the case and all values result in positive changes to the geometry. In a program like 3d max all you need to do is checkoff "Luminance Center" however I have no idea how to do this in MAYA. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and cheers!
Yeah, it's annoying that Maya doesn't offer built-in controls on displacement amount.
The general practice is to use some other node or node, between the displacement texture and the shading group, to tweak the values.
For example, a Set Range node could remap your 0 - 1 texture values to the -0.5 - 0.5 space instead... or a Multiply Divide node could scale the displacement effect up or down without changing the zero point.
