simple maya question
on Apr 30, 2012 at 9:08:27 pm

I have been animating in Maya for years and am now learning how to model in it after a lifetime in Lightwave. Been searching for a while, but does anyone know how to link viewports so that if I zoom in one all the others zoom as well, as in Lightwave? I know Shift F centers on a selection in all viewports, but I have ref pics in front and side viewports and I want to be able to zoom and/or move into a detail and get the same detail in front and side views.

I don't know that there's an easy way to do this.

You could connect the 'Orthographic Width' attribute of the cameras together, which would make them 'zoom' together. But for centering, I think Shift-F is your best bet. Note that if you have something small selected, like a point or a face, the cameras will focus on an appropriately small area; they won't frame the whole scene.

I'm not a modeler, so maybe someone else can chime in with a better tip.
