How To restrict Volume Emitter To Emit Particles in only 1 direction?
on Apr 25, 2012 at 1:27:43 pm

Hi

I am new in Maya Dynamics Field. I am trying to create Volume emitter which emits particles in X-direction. I follow all the steps. First i go to "Create Emitter" Option Box and and define Emitter type "Volume emitter" , and in the "Distance/Direction Attributes" I assign 1 in Direction-X and 0 to Y and Z. But when i create it it starts emitting photons in all direction.
Kindly tell me how to restrict Volume Emitter to emit photons in only 1 direction.
I am using Maya 2011 and 2010.

Thanks.

Volume emitters have several different attributes which control direction of emission, and these change depending on the volume shape (cube, sphere, cylinder, etc.).

Open the 'Volume speed attributes' section for the emitter in your Attribute Editor, and zero all the various speeds (Away from center, Around axis, etc.) except for 'directional.' Then the emitted particles will only move in that direction that you've specified.
