Suggestions for visual FX shot

I'm planning a VFX shot, and I thought I would ask all you pros what YOU think the best approach is.

It's simple really, a guy is laying in a bathtub which is full of scorpions. The scorpions all need to be moving and appear alive.

My first thought was to rig one scorpion, animate it, and then use an emitter to populate the tub that I modeled. Will this work?

I'm really not a character animator so any thoughts you have would help me a ton.

thanks in advance

Whilst I'm in no way a VFX pro, I'm pretty sure there is a feature* in Maya that allows you to create crowds. That might work better than using an emitter, think it's built for situations like these.

Sounds like you're shooting The Mummy 9 ;)

*Not sure if it's a built in feature or a plugin.

Thanks for the tip, I'll look into it.
