Reflections only work after I break model apart?
on Oct 4, 2011 at 10:09:02 pm

Hi everyone, new to Maya, just downloaded a robot model from turbosquid and it comes with a UV map but no textures.

I am trying to make it reflective, and I was having the hardest time until I broke the object mesh into its sub-polygons. Then suddenly reflections worked.

Is this because whatever the model was before (as far as I can tell its a mesh) is incapable of having reflections?

Thanks

Hi Alex,
You don't need to break your mesh down into pieces at all, you only need to go to Attribute Editor while your mesh is selected, and then under the [objectName]Shape tab (usually is the second tab from the left), open the Render Stats menu, just check the "Visible in Reflections". and that's all, you will have its reflection on any other surfaces! You may Check or UnCheck any other options according to your purposes from Render Stats.
Hope this can help.

Shahin
