I would like to make duplicates of an object each with their own independant attributes so that I can modify one without affecting the others.
Is this possible?

Ehm, yes? Ctrl/Cmd + D?

Or, if that makes it an instance instead of a copy, go to edit -> duplicate special option box -> make sure it's set to copy, and not to instance.

Thanks, I'm aware of Ctrl+D funtion and Duplicate Special and options however I hadn't tried ticking Duplicate Input Graph which does the trick admirably.
Thanks for the nudge.
