Beginner: Using a plane to mask objects from camera view

Newbie question:

I am trying to use a plane to block items behind the plane, in a scene were the background will be alpha channel for motion graphics. My intention is that anything behind the plane will be hidden and in front of the plane be visible, but the plane itself be hidden as well. I want to move some objects behind something else without using display attribute to hide it.

Anyone have an idea how to do this?

Apply a background shader to the plane.

Rendering menu set: Lighting/Shading > Assign Favorite Material > Use Background

or

Hypershade: Create > Materials > Use Background and MMB-drag to the plane in the viewport

NB set reflectivity to 0 in the shader attributes, or turn off primary visbility in the plane attributes (render stats)

Perfect! Just had to turn off the reflectivity and shadows and it works GREAT.
