Noob trying to render fur

I'm just doing some quick fur tests on a moving sphere. When I do a single render, it shows up fine.

However, when I go to batch render it to see the movement, it doesn't even show up, and I'm left with a boring lambert sphere.

I've batch rendered it four or five times already. I've tried doing it from a different camera, which didn't help. I tried switching from Maya Software to Mental Ray, but the single image test that I did looked awful, so I switched back.

I'm really new at this, so I'm sure it's just something obvious that I've over looked. I'd really appreciate someone pointing it out to me, if it's obvious.

Unfortunately I don't have much experience with fur.

I know there's a setting (in Fur > Fur Render Settings) that you can use to disable the rendering of other geometry and only render the fur. Perhaps you could try toggling that and seeing if it makes a difference?

Sorry I can't be of more help. Keep trying things and post again if you find anything unusual.
