I'm relatively new to Maya (started learning it last fall). I'm having trouble making an eyeball for my character with the ramp shader. I'm assigning my sphere a Phong shade, then choosing a Ramp Shader texture to make an iris. What's driving me bonkers is that I can only see the resulting eyeball as I want it when I render the current scene. However, in my viewport I can't see it as I work. I only get a gray sphere. Could you please explain what I'm missing? Your help is highly appreciated, sorry if this is a really silly question, I'm still pretty much a beginner.
