Animating a tube growing?
on Nov 23, 2010 at 6:52:29 pm

Hi all,

I was wondering if it were possible to animate an object growing lengthwise without going through the unfortunately tedious process of creating clusters for every single edge loop and animating them that way.

Currently I'm just trying to animate a series of tubes along a path for a graphic, similar to how one would create light streaks in After Effects.

The only other way I could do this would just be to render each tube separately and mask it in After Effects, but compositing always has certain limitations.

Any ideas? Much appreciated.

Totally possible and easy,
use the NURBS extrude function

to extrude a circle on a curve, in the option use the PARTIAL option
the animate the Max Value on subCurve2.

is that easy, see attaches example.

Thank You so much. I couldn't open your file for some reason but I figured out how to do it from your instructions. This looks great - thanks again.

nice to hear that,

that's a maya 2011 file, just open it in any text editor and change the maya version :P
