how does Maya interpret premultiplied textures' alphas?

how does Maya interpret premultiplied textures' alphas?

I'm rendering out some keyed footage from AE which I'd like to map onto planes in Maya for use in a 3d scene.

Not sure what color my AE comp backgrounds must be & whether to render straight or premultiplied alphas for Maya.

Typically these textures are loaded onto something like a "surface shader" and it's transparency mapped along with the color no?

Would appreciate any insights & guidance.
