What I've got is some 3D text floating over a ground plane. The plane is using the "background" material so that it renders invisible but still shows casted shadows and reflections.
I can't figure out how to get those reflections to fade away based on the original object's distance from the plane.
Doing some research, I started playing around with adding a mib_amb_occlusion shader to the material's reflection property, but I can't get anything to happen. I'm rendering in Mental Ray. I even turned on the ambient occlusion in the Mental Ray render settings in the indirect lighting tab. Still nothing.
