I’m trying to open a Maya 8 scene file in Maya 2011 and I’m noticing that random verts are not where they should be. The scene file is of a rigged character and if I move any of the controls ever so slightly the vert problem becomes much worse. Has anybody seen this problem before or know of an easy way to fix it?
Ok, I've solved the problem and I'll post the solution in case anybody else is running into this same issue.
Basically, the history needed to be deleted and that what was causing the rogue verts. If I deleted all the history I would lose the enveloping and mesh/rig connection, so I instead deleted just the non-deformer history. In the Maya 8 version I went to:
Edit > Delete by Type > Non-Deformer History
This deleted the history on the mesh but kept my rig and weight data intact. I saved the scene and opened it in Maya 2011 and everything seems to have worked out. Here's the character in Maya 2011 to prove it!
