Spotlight - setting the focal length

I'm trying to create a realistic projector for a rendering of an installation which will have projections on various scrims and surfaces.

It looks alright using the spotlight->color attribute, but it's always in focus and that's not realistic and makes everything too crisp.

I've been digging around looking for a way to create a projector with a focal length, but I can't figure it out.

Am I missing something obvious? I feel like it shouldn't be such a big deal.

A light is not like a camera and cannot have a light shader connected to it that would provide the DOF blur.

You can get the effect it by relating the filter values of the textures to the distance between the shaded point and the lightsource. The samplerInfoNode can provide that information.
