How do I adjust the speed of an animated texture?
on Jul 17, 2010 at 8:52:45 pm

I've mapped an animated texture to a plane and it's working fine, but it's playing too slow. Can I adjust the rate that it's playing in Maya in the attributes somewhere?

Thanks in advance...

You can, but you shouldn't. If the framerate is wrong, you cannot have the proper relationship between a frame and a file texture;

Ideally, you would have

frame1 : image.1.iff
frame2 : image.2.iff
frame3 : image.3.iff
frame4 : image.4.iff

This is what the default expression does: file1.frameExtension=frame

You could try to speed up the playback of the texture by changing the expression. For example< if I wanted a 60% increase in playback speed I could change it to

file1.frameExtension=frame * 1.6;
but then this would happen:

frame1 : image.2.iff
frame2 : image.3.iff
frame3 : image.5.iff
frame4 : image.6.iff

Which I bet is going to look horrible.
