Large scene won't render...
on May 10, 2010 at 8:54:49 pm

Hi,

I am trying to render a scene about 17075x9775 pixel. But as I try in the ordinary way, Maya 2009 crashes and I get the following message:

Fatal Error. Attempting to save in
C:/User/Tom/AppData/Local/Temp/Tom.20100510.ma

I don't really know what this actually means, but in lack of another explanation I think this is because my notebooks small RAM size (2GB).

So I tried to render the scene in more peaces via command line rendering.
But I had no luck, here I get the following warning messages, and the image I get is partially illuminated, and really crappy:

D:\Projects\Ancada 2>render -x 600 -y 400 -reg 0 300 0 400 -rd c:\myrender -im test1 oneproductscene.mb

Try mr proxies. They can help bring down the memory requirements significantly.

Hi,

Ok, I decided to reduce the size of the scene to 8000x4000 pixel, but I still have to use batch rendering. This time it renders quite fast, the only problem is that I get the following warning messages, about a glitch regarding to my lights, which are no more visible in my final render:

Warning: line 1: Unrecognized node type for node ‘_spotLight1_mrLoc’; preserving node information during this session.

So I went back into maya and disabled the “use light shape” and then I get no warning, but my scene is under exposed plus my lights are no more visible, due to the lack of the extra boost that this option gave to the lights.

Why batch rendering supports no mental ray area lights?I was looking for a solution but I did not find anything, I have no more ideas what to do…

It is a really important project, and I don't know how to fix it, please help me out...

Thanks

I think I have found a solution, :)
Until now I used to render the scene without specifying the renderer (I think the batch render should follow the original settings made inside maya, but he rendered using maya software render):

C:\render scene.mb

So I have tried this, and now the scene looks ok, even if I get the warnings:

C:\render -r mr scene.mb

Thanks.
