replace object

How can I replace an animated object (group of polys) with
another group of objects. I would like to keep all the deformers
and so, just change the main object.
Thanks
Frank

Use the deformer command to add geometries to an existing deformer

This is straight from the docs:

// To create a plugin of type "squash" on the selected object.
// First, load the plugin. The deformer command will not autoload
// your plugin. Then, select the geometries that you'd like to deform,
// and use the deformer command as follows. For example, to deform a
// cylinder with a squash:
//
cylinder -ax 0 1 0 -r 1 -hr 10 -d 3 -s 8 -nsp 20 -ch 1;
select -r nurbsCylinder1;
deformer -type squash;

// To query the membership of the deformer
//
deformer -q -g squash1;

// To add additional geometries from your deformer, type:
//
select -r nurbsCylinder1 ;
duplicate;
// Result: nurbsCylinder2 //
move -r -2.749017 0 0 ;
deformer -e -g nurbsCylinder2 squash1;

// To remove a geometry from your deformer, type:
//
deformer -e -rm -g nurbsCylinder2 squash1;

Michiel,
Thanks once again for your answer.
My object has several deformers and motion.
I made a new better object, which I would like to use in
place of the first one.

Michiel,
I cannot find the plug.
What is its name?
Thanks

if you use standard deformers that come with Maya that part does not apply to you and you only need to do something like this:

deformer -e -g nurbsCylinder2 squash1;

Got it, thanks.
What means -e -g?
