I have a little problem about how Mental Ray renders shadows for me.
It renders them like their complexity would be set almost to 0 and it's not!
I found out that Maya sowftware renders them way better with some Mental Ray settings like Ray Tracing and Refelections.
Tried to add the same settings to Mental Ray too, but still the same result.
Please someone help me if possible - Maya software render takes time and I would like to render separately with them :
Maya software - Textures Preview only
Mental Ray - Real rendering :D
So what you are saying is that there are no soft shadows when you render with MR? Are they jagged edges? When I have that problem I raise the resolution (still using maya lights no mental ray lights plugged in) up to 4k and raise the filter up to 10 or more until it looks good. Make sure if you are using depth map shadows to not use only 1 Dmap. When using raytracing it will try to calculate realistic shadows and sometimes they will NOT be soft because they wouldn't be in real life. If none of this helps you might want to try raising (in raytracing) light radius and shadow rays. Don't forget to try raising your shadows samples in the render settings. Good luck!
