Question about fixing UV texture to moving polygon
on Jan 11, 2010 at 11:42:46 am

Hi there,

Hope one of you guys can help me here.
I'm animating some logos using set driven keys on the attributes of 2 polygon logos.
I'm using two textures with a partial alpha at one end of each texture.
I used automatic mapping to set the texture to the UVs and initially everything looks fine.
However I'm now animating the SDK animation in a new camera and the alpha channel (and placement of the UVs in the texture editor) are all swimming around.
I'm probably being really stupid here, but I'm wondering how to fix/attach the texture to the placement I want on the poly irrespective of how I animate the model further down the line.

Hoping one of you can help
Thanks for your time
Very much appreciated

Pete

It appears we have have resolved this,
As simple as deleting all by type history
Got this from a previous post by Alvaro Castaneda
Cheers Alvaro, saved a lot of stress for me today

Best

Hi. I too have this problem but "delete history" isn't working.

i selected my object > modify > delete by type > history.

is that correct?

I created a shader with a bump map. my camera is static and my polygon model rotates. I still get the look as if my shader is being projected onto the model and not stuck to it as it rotates.

is there anything i have missed???

thank you for your time.

Hey man. When you model polygons, you should always go ahead and UV immediately after your are done modeling and before you start any sort of animation on it, or you will always get this sort of result. The reason being is that UV space is in direct relation to the positioning of the world space it was dropped it unless you freeze the transformations and delete the history on the object after UVing and texturing.

It's kind of a double-wammy in this respect, because if you don't do it in this order, you have to go back, or your textures will move. But if you don't do go back, you lose your animation unless it's attached to a motion path.

So, moral of the story is: Model --> UV ---> Texture ---> Freeze Transforms --> Delete History --> Animate.

This should solve your problems.

The solution for animations with textures moves problems is:

Edit/Delete by type/Non-Deformer History

Now you can continue working :)
