mesh to 'pointcloud' (or poly cloud)

Hi,

this might be a little obscure, so I'll try to explain it as best I can :)

I have a mesh of a landscape. What I'm trying to do is place a small square poly at the center of the location of each vertex in the mesh. each poly should be aligned the same (not aligned to the normals of the mesh vertices)

So, in other words, I'm trying to create a point cloud from a mesh, but instead of points, I'm wanting to use simple small polys (because they are renderable)

Any help or insights anyone can offer about this would be greatly appreciated :)

Kind Regards
Lachlan

Make the mesh a softbody, which adds a particle at each vertex and use the instancer to place a small poly mesh onto each particle, or just render the particles.

I found this script that copies geometry to each vertex

http://www.creativecrash.com/maya/downloads/scripts-plugins/c/cra_spreadobj...

that might help you

note: this is so damn easy in Houdini :)

mate, you're a genius! thats exactly what I'm after...

I should be able to tweak this to get it to ignore the rotations, but otherwise it's perfect :D

cheers
