So for my senior thesis one of my characters is a horse, and I just finished rigging his body. I have a fair amount of knowledge about horse movement having grown up with horses, but I've been having some issues animating this horse in Maya. The biggest challenge I run into is balancing the shoulder rotation with the compression of the fetlock, since if they get slightly out of sync with each other, the knee pops. The only way I've been able to deal with this is to just set keys everywhere, which is messy. I figure there has to be some way CG animators deal with this that's easier and cleaner than what I'm doing. Does anyone have advice on animating quadrupeds that they could share?
