Maya UI color change
on Oct 19, 2009 at 2:19:48 pm

Hi, can anyone tell me how to change the generic gray color of the UI to a darker color? Also for a bonus how to change the viewport as well? I am very new to the program. Thank you in advance.

Hi
You CAN'T change that in windows or mac, only on linux

the viewport can be changed by pressing Alt+B and you cycle the colors, I think there's 4 options

All of the color settings can be changed here:

In the menu under Settings/Preferences select Color Settings. I'm not totally clear as to which parts you want to change the color of but if it's something that's changeable then you'll find it there.

Hi,
I am not sure if you are familiar with Adobe After Effects or Premiere, but they call it UI and they have a lever in the preference, to make the whole thing darker and if you go all the way dark, then the text will switch from black to white. I looked in the pref., i am on a Mac, and I got nothing that says "color". I saw a UI tab, but nothing to deal with changing colors. I am not sure if by my example, that made any sense. i hope it did- Thanks so much!

Oh, you mean you want to change the color of all the interface areas such as the toolbars and menus rather than just the work areas? There is no way to do that in Maya that I know of. It's always possible that someone out there has created some hack to do it.

But it also sounds like you couldn't find what I directed you to. It's right where I told you, even on the Mac version. Go to the menu and under "Window" go into "Settings/Preferences" and select "Color Settings". You can change the colors of all sorts of parts of the UI, but not in the way you describe AE and Premier doing it to everything in a sort of night mode. It might get it at least close to what you want though.

on linux you just use the MayaScheme config file, put that in
/home/USERNAME/app-defaults/MayaScheme

and maya picks that up, that might work on mac, never tried
