I have always wanted to learn how model and animate how pixar and dreamworks do but i dont know where to start. I want to know what software they use and how its all put together.
Currently ive been reading books on after effects because i figured it was a good tool to know how to use in general. Im also experienced in premiere and photoshop but i dont know where to go next.
The reason why im posting this in the maya section is because when i was searching google i stumbled across the monster's vs aliens behind the scene's video and saw that they were using maya but im sure thats not the only thing that animators use.
I know that this isnt going to be a "read on book and ull understand it" type of thing but im ready to be committed and do all the work necessary. If you have any tips or suggestions please let me know!
If your a serious animator, Animation Mentor (http://www.animationmentor.com) provides training specifically in character animation using Maya. But they use Maya as a tool and teach animation concepts. Its the animator who makes the animation and not the software. Otherwise they have some great free webinars and eBooks on their site that talk about workflow and animation.
Other resources I know of are Digital Tutors (http://www.digitaltutors.com) and The Gnomon Workshop (http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/)
