Video in May (Noobie question)
on Jul 6, 2009 at 9:27:55 pm

I am new to Maya, and I am struggling with it. I am well versed in After Effects, but I guess that knowledge is keeping me in a box. I really need your help. I am creating an animation of 3D text, and I want to attach some video that I have exported from Avid to some of the faces of that text. How do I do that?

Thank you,

The best and easiest way is to export an image sequence. While Maya will work with compiled videos, it only works with a limited number of specific formats, and is really more of a pain in the ass than it's worth. Image sequences are the way to go 9 times out of 10 anyway. Export the image sequence out of avid. Best advice is to make sure that your filename is formated like this:

for example: MyImage.1.jpg

If you do that you will never have any problems with Maya reading images sequences and then you can apply them to anything you like flawlessly.
There is a checkbox under the file field that says "Use Image Sequence". Check it. There you go.
Good luck.
