Please help! I'm fairly new to Maya and desperately trying to finish off a project for my course. I have a simple scene witha bouncy ball 1 floor plane and one wall plane. I have a camera set up, materials added to my surfaces. I have to add lighting to the scene, preferably something that lights the whole scene. I have tried all the various lightings and all of them are just too bright. So bright you can't even make out anything in the scene, this is even after adjusting the settings. I've since deleted all the lights I added, but every time I render the scene is still so highly contrasted you can't see anything.

I've checked and triple checked that there are no lights in my scene, what am I missing? This is absolutely doing my head in!

I'm not sure about this, but try changing your gamma settings in the renderer. Maybe that's the problem??
