One polygon theory

Hi there! I was just wondering. I know there is a lot of emphasize on models being one perfectly designed polygon. However, is it really absolutely necessary? It seems easier just to add different primitives for various things like the nose, ears, and then just combine mesh. I know that may affect various facial expression contortions. But for some simple characters is it really that important?

Hi

There are no written rules about this, it all depends on the needs you have, maybe a cartoony character is better in pieces maybe not.

A few years ago, everything was made with patches, even Ice Age 1 was still done in nurbs patches, because their renderer worked better with nurbs.

So, is up to you and what will work better for your project, I personally do a lot of both, One huge mesh for a whole character, specially organic meshes, and a bunch of pieces for a cartoon character by example

so, better ask your self, what will make my life a living hell?
and then DON't do that :D
