2D style shading/ texture
on Mar 17, 2009 at 2:09:56 am

Hi, i am going to create a simple character and animate it in maya, but i have a very specific idea about how i want to shade it, i want it to be 2 colours only - green and a darker green for the side in shadow, not blended at all. do you know how i would achieve this effect? I also want to create a thick black outline around the character.

I am almost completely new to maya i am afraid, i am planning on animating this character in maya and importing it into a 2d environment i have created in after-effects, the reason i want it to have 3d qualities and movement but a 2d style.

i have created a mockup of how i want it to look here

im sorry if this is a simple question, but any help would be very much appreciated!

thanks

Jon

Hi

That's pretty easy to do in maya
it comes with some toony shaders, I did this in under minute

so, don't worry about the shading, that's the easy part :p

thankyou so much! i think its quite obvious that i have been stuck firmly in the 2D and 2 and a half D world until now, i was worried that i would spend a lot of time modelling a character and find out i did it wrong for my purpose.
