lighting/shadering a model

Hi,
I am new to Maya.
I bought this model:
http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3d-antique-compass-model/414768

and imported it to Maya. Of course it looks gray and dull like the default. Can anyone point to a few steps that would make it look more like the model in the link above? Should I use lighting ot shading?

Thanks,

Amit
