gobo passes?
on Jan 28, 2009 at 10:41:28 pm

Hi all,

Ok, I finally figured out how to create shadow passes, difuse, etc.. in Maya 2009. however, i was wondering if there is a way to create a gobo pass?
For example, I made a 5 sec black & white movie of tree leaves blowing (via paint tool) and then added to the SPOT light INPUT. This creates a wonderful shadow-like appearence on the surface. But I would like to have control of the shadows when i bring it into AE.
Does anyone know how to do that?

Thanks,
lou

hi

create a new render layer add all the objects being afected by that light, add the light also, add the use background material to all objects
and render. now you created a special new pass :D

Hi Again,

Ok I tried it but it doesn't work. If I use a "real Tree" and project its shadow on the surface, It shows up the way you said. However, I am using a B&W image of a tree and "projecting" it onto the surface. When I apply USED BKGROUND SHADER, it's blank, no alpha , no nothing.

Here were my steps:
1 Selected surface & Light
2 Add a render layer
3. Add USE BK ground shader
4 Render it

Thanks,
Lou
