Maya Batch not Rendering All Layers
on Jan 21, 2009 at 3:03:50 pm

Hi everyone!

Pardon me for being a bit of a forum hog lately, but I am in some foreign waters with Maya here, and my deadline is looming.

Now, I have a lot of experience with Maya, but am not an expert by any means. The problem is this: When I set up a series of render layers to batch render, it will only render the first layer in the stack that is set to render. For instance, I have five layers checked to render, but only the first renders. After that, mayabatch quietly creates another folder for the next layer, but fails to put anything in it. I am certain that the files aren't hidden or anything, and was wondering if anyone else encountered the problem.

Thanks so much in advance - you are a tremendous help!

Hi
what format did you output the files to?
when you use layered PSD first it makes all the files then it fuses them

if not using PSD, check a folder around there in your images folder named temp
sometimes they hide there.

I'm rendering TIFFs, and checked for temp folders - still nothing.

Great ideas, but does anyone else have some other suggestions?

Thanks!

Hey guys, just wanted to give you an update.

scarface1 at CGSociety turned me on to this great little script that will essentially "batch" everything in Maya to the Render View, and save it to a custom directory. This is a great work-around for any errors that may result in batch, but render fine within Maya:

// this script render's your animation in renderview and saves it where you want
// just excute this text and then type "batchPreviewUI" in command line and hit enter

//UI
global proc batchPreviewUI () {
if (`window -exists masood`)
{
deleteUI masood ;
}
window -title "masoodBatch" -mxb 0 masood;
columnLayout -adj 0 maincolmas;
text -label "type the distination folder and file name n {c:\destination\filename" filenaming;
textField -w 400 addressField;
text -label "start frame" startframeField;
textField -w 50 startF;
text -label "end frame" endframeField;
textField -w 50 endF;
button -label "batchPreview" -command batchPreview masoodsbutt;
showWindow masood;
}

// render &save proc

global proc batchPreview ()
{
string $address =`textField -q -text addressField`;
string $dynAddr;
int $fnumber;
int $startFrame=`textField -q -text startF`;
int $endFrame=`textField -q -text endF`;
$endFrame=$endFrame+2;
currentTime -e $startFrame;
int $temp;
for ($i=$startFrame ;$i<$endFrame ; $i++)
{
$fnumber=`currentTime -q`;
$temp=1000+$fnumber;
$dynAddr=$address+$temp;
renderWindowRender redoPreviousRender renderView;
renderWindowSaveImageCallback "renderView" $dynAddr "image";
currentTime -e $i;
}
}
batchPreviewUI;

Hi,

Nice script!
Is there a way to cancel the renderview batch rendering once its started without having to kill maya?
