hi,theres an effect used in some ads from stardust, where 3d objects seem to unfold themselves or construct themselves.is this effect done in maya or in a motion graphis app like after effect

Hi

I've done something like that before and I did it in Maya, any 3d app would work

how would you do it. is not that hard, build the object on pieces or build the object first then split it, texture the thing and animate the parts, some times the seems are visible in the object, you can replace the split object with the full one after the animation, on the last frame.

just so im really sure, id like someone to see an example here:

the part that interests me is where the parts of the bridge begin to form as the vehicle is about to drive off the bridge.
*Are all the spins and tumbles the objects do before they get into place also animated. I need some kind of resource material or tutorial so i can really get it.

those objects are just rotating into place, nothing special at all
some rotate forwards and some from the sides. is actually that simple, but when you add more and more seems a bit more complex, they also added a "cloud" of smaller cubes just to cover/hide the transition from the complete bridge and the new cubes.

try it out, is simple
