Maya Parent Object to Vertex?
on Sep 30, 2008 at 9:43:36 pm

Hey everyone,

I am working on animating a tree. I have the trunk and a branch, both seperate objects. I am doing a simple scale on the tree trunk in order to make it grow on the y-axis. I also have a tree branch with some animation. I am trying to in some way "parent" the tree branch to a specific vertex on the tree trunk in order to make the branch follow a particular point on the trunk as it scales. Any thoughts?

I tried using "Transfer Attributes" to no avail, but it was the closest thing yet. I have also tried creating clusters, however, as I found out, the cluster will remain in one place if I am scaling the trunk.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance!!

your best bet is going to be to download a plugin called "rivit" (or something like that) from highend 3d. It automates the process of constraining objects to the surface of a polygon/nurbs object.

this all depends on your setup..

attach the branch to your trunk (there must be a reason why you havent attached it though),
or create a set driven key (where the scale drives the transform)
