Tutorials or guides for using Maya objects in After Effects?
on Sep 26, 2008 at 12:07:03 am

I want to create 3d text in Maya 8.5, but then apply effects to it in AE 7.0 - is that possible? What is possible with AE and Maya?

Are there any good tutorials about this or similar things?

Thanks all!

Hi,

AE CS4 has some object import functionality which I'm sure will be a step in the right direction but we don't have that yet.

So as far as I'm aware at the moment all you can do is render you 3d as a movie or still depending on whats required and then treat it like any other movie or still in AE.

you can export camera data from maya(but its a pain in the bum) an apply this to your AE camera but unless you have AE cs4 the result is a camera moving in 3d space looking at 2d layers.

cinema4d has this camera export thing sussed(unfortunately) I don't have the head space to learn two apps:(

good luck
