Noob question... 3d modelling from a photograph?
on Sep 21, 2008 at 10:28:27 pm

I can't even figure out how to get a photo into my Maya 8.5 3d workspace, let alone I want to try to build a rendering of a 3d building that I have a picture of.

Does anyoine know where I could find a tutorial on this, or give me some pointers. I am basically editing a video, the host is standing in front of a building, and I want the building to kind of pop out in 3d so I can point out things he is describing.

Thanks guys,
Aza

Hi,

The easiest way to bring in a foto into maya is to create a plane: CREATE>POLYGON PRIMITIVES>PLANE. The size should be in relationship to the phtograph to avoid distortion. Maya doesnt work in pixels however so 1024 X 576 pixels should translate to 10.24 X 5.76 units in maya space. Assign it a new material such as a lambert in the hypershade. in the attribute editor, go to the color attr. (the checker box to the right of it. choose to map a file, browse it and that should do the trick. remember to hot 5 on the keyboard to activate textures.

As for the modeling... polygons is the way to go. look for tuts on cg-links.com
