A better PS Maya IFF plugin?
on Aug 29, 2008 at 5:04:47 pm

Hi all, I just installed CS3 and found that Adobe provides an IFF plugin. At first I thought, "Great, it should be less crashy than the one from Alias circa 2000."

Well, it may be more stable but I hate the new plugin because instead of an alpha channel, it creates layer transparency.

I can't manipulate the alpha directly without going through a half dozen steps.

Not only that, but if you save the transparency to a 4th channel. then flatten the RGB channels and save it back to IFF, it warns you then saves the file RGB and loses the Alpha.

Is there a better IFF plugin out there that behaves like the old Alias one, but that doesn't crash so much?

Thanks!

i've yet to find one, i think you'll be better off just switching over to SGI sequences, which is what i did after the whole IFF broken plugin fiasco. They are almost as fast as IFF and generally just as supported if not more supported.
