Simplify Objects

I've switched from 3DS to Maya and have a question:
How can I simplify an object that has many attributes attached to it?

In 3DS, you could apply several modifiers. All you would do is 'Convert to Mesh' and it applied them into a clean, new object.

I've tried the convert tool in Maya, but I want to keep it a NURB, etc.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Frank

I believe if what your looking to do is essentially delete/merge the history then you can just select the object in maya and go to edit>delete by type>history.
This will delete(it will all still be applied like in max) the history and you'll have one fresh new object. I generally delete the history quite a few times as I model since maya holds a lot more editable history on an object then max does so it can stack up really fast and become really memory intensive...it'll keep track of stuff like the new edge loops you add for example(which you can change the positioning of in the history as a side tip).
Anyways hope that helped.

Thank you, Stanley - that's the perfect answer.
