Mental Ray batch render gradually stops rendering objects

hey

i'm trying to achieve the effect Andrew Kramer achieved in his Twitch / Vines tutorial in maya. I've got everything set up and rendering a single frame with mental ray works fine. However when i try a batch render after a few frames gradually vines stop being rendered.

here's frames 22-24 in draft quality. i started this render at frame 20 so the vines had grown enough to be visible.

just to compare, here is frame 24 from a single frame render:

is this maybe to do with a lack of memory on my machine? ive got 1.5gb ram on a g5 imac.

any help would be great

thanks
tom

are you rendering FROM MAYA, or the command line.
if you render from the command line is better, if you render from within maya, maya is already using a bunch of ram to show you the interface, the geometry and the textures, is always better to render from the command line and is very very easy actually, this is the command:

open Terminal,

Render -r mr thisIsmyScene.ma

that simple, if the Render command says that it doesn`t exist, type the complete path to it, as well as the path to your scene file, like this

/aw/maya/bin/Render -r mr /users/projects/maya/thisIsmyScene.ma

hope this helps
