Downsaving?

Hey Guys,

What is the best way to get a Maya 2008 scene in to Maya 8.5?

My work has 2008 and I have 8.5 at home. I have tried just a simple .mb file with no luck and have yet to try a .ma

Nothing fancy no shading,or textures or lights... Just some modeled nurbs and polygons.

Is there some preference setting I am missing? Is this even possible?

Thank you in advance!

I'm not sure it will work with these versions of maya, but what has worked in earlier versions is to save your file as a maya ascii file. open it up in notepad. At the very top of the file, you'll see a few lines declaring "maya 8.5" or something like that. (there should only be about 3 or 4 entries like that). Change that line to the version # you want to open it in, and it should open in the older version. hope that helps
