Skin and Skeleton Help!

I have created a polygonal shaped man in MAYA 8.5 and then a skeleton to go with it. I then bind the two together using the "smooth bind" function. when I move or rotate any of my joints or IK handels the skin does not move correctly... It moves ... but not in accordance with the joints like it should! Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated...

skininng a character is just half the battle, or maybe even less, you are in the right path, the next step is to weight the character, you have to paint weights of the influence of the bones in the skin, maya by default tries to guess, but a character can looks like anything. Please read the tutorial included in maya about skinning and panting weights and you can fix your character.
