I have been trying to get my particles to fade out as they die to no success. I have tried the tips in the help file but cant seem to get it to work. I am using volume emitter and blobby surface type, so that i can use the software renderer. If anyone has suggestions i would greatly appreciate it.
The fact that they are blobbies is the issue. You are probably trying to manipulate them based on the opacityPP attribute, but that doesn't affect blobby particles, which are shaded using a regular surface shader (lambert, phong, etc.).
Create a particleSamplerInfo node and connect its 'ageNormalized' attribute to the v-coord attribute of a ramp node, then hook the ramp up to the transparency attribute of the material applied to the particles and you should be all set.
