Best way to learn Maya 8.5?
on Aug 3, 2007 at 10:05:28 pm

Hello I want to learn Maya 8.5 for work. Does anyone know any good DVDs or books to learn this software? How about online tutorials?
Thanks for your help.

The best bang for the buck is usually dvd based training like digital tutors or gnomon workshop. I think the COW even does DVD based training now.
hope that helps

Actually as far as bang for your buck if you can find some books with included video tutorials that may be the best training for the money. I don't think they've updated their set yet but alias (before they became autodesk) had a set of three books out that was really fantastic, Kino and I did reviews on them (learning maya foundation, animation & rendering).

Also "Mastering Maya 8.5" on amazon is getting some good reviews.

Also Autodesk is getting a decent collection together:

I just happen to have a review copy of this book. I'd be happy to send it to you if you'd commit to writing a review for the COW.

Im fairly new to maya and have found the digital tutors maya basics dvd spot on for learning the programme. I personaly cant imagine a better way to learn, other than having your own personal professional maya expert sitting next to you!

The only difference is that you cant ask a question, but then thers Creative Cow for that. I love technology!

Hope that helps and good luck,
Ad
