Rendering: Loss of detail with stretched pixels
on Jul 11, 2007 at 2:25:04 pm

I'm rendering out some background plates for live-action green-screen material. The green screen footage is 720x480, with a pixel aspect ratio of 0.9, which only looks right when it's interpreted at 1.2 PAR in my compositing software (AE).

So, the only way to make my 720x480 renders fit neatly is to render them with a 1.2 pixel aspect ratio.

Am I loosing detail by doing this? What are my alternative?

Rendering with square pixels wins detail but creates another problem: The rendered plate, properly interpreted, becomes narrower then the live-action footage.

Am I supposed to increase the horizontal resolution on the plates? What whole new set of problems will I encounter by doing that?

I did post this up on AE. No takers.
