raytracing images planes

i'm raytracing (with reflections and refractions turned on) transparent spheres (phong shader) in front of an image plane. everything works fine but the black background of the scene is also showing up. is there a way to ignore the background and raytrace only the image plane?

thanks

gary

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you and what you are trying to achieve, but have you looked under "renderstats" in your attribute editor for the object you don't want to apear in the reflections?

If this is your problem, then you can disable the visible in reflections and refractions.

Cheers
